How In-Car Driving Lessons Are Scheduled
In-car lessons are scheduled online, but portal access must be created first.
Our Customer Service Heroes set up the student portal and send login information.
Why This Step Is Required
- Confirm the student has obtained a Texas learner’s permit from DPS
- Verify completion of the first 6 hours of the online classroom
- Assign the correct student profile and location

Once the student has obtained their learner’s permit from DPS, Customer Support must create
the portal before online scheduling becomes available.

Training & Permit Requirements
Learner’s Permit (Required by Texas Law)
- Student must have a valid Texas learner’s permit in their possession
- Permit must be physically present for every lesson
- No permit = no driving or observation lesson
Course Completion Requirements
- 24 hours online classroom (first 6 required before in-car lessons)
- 7 hours behind-the-wheel driving
- 7 hours in-car observation

Drive Smart is authorized to administer the Texas road test.
